Governance![]()
Saint Stanislaus Kostka is a non-profit Catholic school which enjoys the support and benefits that accompany being part of the Diocese. Likewise, we are guided by the policies and standards of both the Diocese of Brooklyn, as well as the Education Department of the State of New York. As a parish school, many decisions relating to Saint Stanislaus School are made at the local level, taking into account the unique population and individual needs of our students. Parish and school leadership work collaboratively to ensure the integrity, effectiveness and reputation of the school through establishment of policy. For local decision making, all levels of the school community play a role. The pastor is the chief administrative officer of the total parish of which the school is a part and maintains the spiritual tone of the parish and of the school. The principal is the instructional leader and administrative head of the school. The faculty meets regularly with the principal to clarify, revise, and implement policy. The Home School Association, which includes officials elected by the general school community as well as a parent representative from each class, works to make other levels of the school community aware of the needs and suggestions of the parents. The Student Leadership Committee, including students elected by their peers under the guidance of their faculty moderator, voices the concerns and the vision of the students. These structures are in place to provide a forum for each level of this learning community. The administration encourages all levels to participate in the life and growth of the school. Whenever the need arises, informal meetings with administration are encouraged. Basic policy issues are formalized and communicated in writing each year to students, parents, and faculty. A School Handbook of written policies, consistent with the school's identity and mission, is distributed each September. It is reviewed regularly and changes are made when necessary. Future plans for governance include the establishment of a Board of Pastors from the neighboring parishes of Maspeth, as well as a School Education Committee. This committee will include locally selected and appointed members of the entire parish community and will be consultative to the Board of Pastors and the Principal in areas of policy making, finance, public relations and marketing, leading to a broader collaboration between the local community and the parish school. |
